In today’s world, the idea of ‘
economic independence’ is often misunderstood. We define ‘economic independence’ as the condition resulting, when individual women and men have their own access to the full range of economic opportunities and resources, including employment, services, and sufficient disposable income, such that they can shape their lives and can meet their own needs and those of their dependents. This definition of economic independence requires the freedom and ability to plan for future needs and potential risks with a realistic confidence that these needs can be met.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP + EMPOWERMENT = ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE
To achieve this independence, three areas must be identified and addressed for the individual:
- the specific needs and goals each individual has, contrasted with a pragmatic assessment of their life-skills,
- the societal and vocational environment accessible to the individual, and finally,
- the intended outcomes for which the individual will apply economic independence.
Our work is to help individuals understand these three areas. With mentoring and select education, we empower them to seek out and access their opportunities to achieve economic independence.
